High purity, chemical resistance and its physical
properties make platinum the ideal material for temperature measuring
resistors.
As a result of the special platinum properties, Pt temperature sensors
exhibit a number of important advantages compared to competitive products
such as Semiconductor sensors (KTY®) or Thermistors (NTC):
- High precision
- Low drift
- Long lifetime
- High signal range and hence easy evaluation
- Broad temperature range from -200 to 1000°C.
The resistance change of Pt temperature sensors basically
depends on the length and diameter of the platinum wire. Categorized
in various resistance classes from 25 to 1000 Ohms, the sensors provide
different signals at temperature increases. According to their design,
two sensor types are distinguished:
Wounded Pt temperature sensors and
Thin-film Pt temperature sensors
